iPhone

I got an iPhone Friday at 8pm. No lines whatsoever at the AT&T store I went to in Watkinsville where I was visiting family. I literally bought the iPhone and walked out - it was really simple. Brought it back to my cousin’s place and got it setup (I didn’t have any issues with activation luckily). I’m fairly impressed with it - the interface is amazing and is everything I’ve come to expect from Apple. There’s a few issues I’ve encountered though - IMAP couldn’t see all of my mailboxes by default, so I had to set the IMAP Path Prefix in the settings. Safari isn’t blazing fast (on WiFi that is, its even slower (as expected) when using the EDGE cellular data network as well) and it crashes quite often and I’ve run into quite a few web sites that are broken (I can’t update my status on Facebook and I can’t enter text in the WordPress post writer for instance).

The only learning curve has been getting used to the keyboard (which is quite intuitive and easy to use). Mail works intuitively and comes off as pretty well polished - it’s definitely better than a CrackBerry and any of the Palm OS devices I’ve had in the past. The phone just works, which is critical to me. The switch for vibrate/ring works wonderfully (no more ascending/descending beeps as I mute or unmute my phone). And the iPod portion is simply amazing - it’s intuitive, but far more powerful than a normal iPod (CoverFlow is great). Put simply, I love it. Though I will say - there’s a few things I want to see - MMS (I foresee a software update delivering this soon), iChat (it just makes sense on a portable phone), and a terminal for SSH (I’m not holding my breath on this one though).

Superman Returns

So we left the house a bit after 6 to head up to the Mall of Georgia to see the 10PM Superman Returns showing at the Imax theatre (in 3D for 20 minutes as well). It was quite an experience to see it in Imax. The 3D scenes were pretty good too, although from time to time it felt awkward with my glasses on and the 3D glasses in front of them. The movie was great, the acting was really good and Kevin Spacey made an excellent Lex Luthor. Talk about a one night stand…

Mr. And Mrs. Smith Review

Awesome. Excellent blend of action, comedy, and a bit of drama. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made an excellent pair on screen. They pulled off their roles quite well. Some of the scenes were just hilarious. It came off as a really well thought out movie. I give it an A.

Third Time’s A Charm

Wow. Episode 3 was excellent. It makes up for the last two without a doubt. I think it may even be better than any of the original three, but I haven’t made up my mind on that yet. The soundtrack was excellent and worked right into the movie. The only downer was that we spent two and a half hours waiting for the thing to start, but we got good seats. Driving home was amazing - windows down, moon-roof open, music blaring, and less than a dozen cars on the road. Wow, what a great night. Oh and the movie was longer than I expected. It was also hard not to miss the politics of the movie.

Donnie Darko

Awesome dark movie. I was able to guess how some things played into the end, but the end was simply killer.

Team America

I don’t think I’ve seen a movie that funny in a while. It was a hilarious piece of satire that left me crying from laughing so hard. When it was over and everyone was leaving, I saw a bunch of 10 year olds there, with their parents. The movie contained puppets having sex (in a ton of “positions”), pretty violent and graphic (yes… graphic in a puppetized movie) deaths, and tons of explicatives. The satire is hilarious too, they mock the CIA, the government in general, the Film Actors Guild (tons of fun with that acronym) for their member’s typical stance, and of course Michael Moore (who goes suicide bombing). If you’re 17+ (or have a fake ID), be sure to check out Team America.

Five Days To Midnight

So I just finished watching Five Days To Midnight on the family Tivo (DirecTV needs to add multi-room viewing to their Tivos!). The ending was great. It left a little more to be desired. The plot twists and how everything came together in the end was great. I suppose it was a typical movie in how it deals with the ability to change the future. It leaves you guessing whether or not the future can be changed. While that may be cliché, it does an excellent job of making you guess. In other news, Father’s Day was nice. We got my dad some new clothes and cologne. Dinner was awesome, since we went to Bone’s State House in Buckhead. I had scrimp cocktail, filet mignon, and mile high pie (cake and ice cream) :)

Rejoice!

At Last, XBox Online (System Link tunneled over the net == Halo Online). Mac users shall rejoice. It uses the XBConnect Service, so I can play people with Windoze :D

The Hulk

So I watched The Hulk today. I definitely have mixed feelings and can’t decide if I really liked it or not. I liked the story, plot, characters, etc. but it was incredibly slow and they overdid the special effects in some areas (not really in the action scenes though oddly enough). The ending was a bit unexpected, which I found lacking (oddly too, since I usually enjoy unexpected endings). I’d probably give it a B or B-. In other news, I got my voter registration card in the mail today. I’ll have to update it once I move to Tech. I’ll update the info, but won’t waste my time voting unless they add a paper trail to the system. California has banned the use of the Diebold voting machines after massive issues with votes not being counted and votes counted for the wrong person… lots of stuff that invokes tons of faith. Every week Slashdot brings more news of flaws and problems with the machines. And the fact that my choices don’t appeal to me doesn’t make me want to go out and vote. I also just found out that I’ll be on East campus, which apparently in contradiction to my dad’s research is the party side. This should be interesting.

Funniest Thing Ever

Go here and laugh until you cry. It’s the funniest parody I’ve ever seen. Jacob and Joe agree (and so does Adam).
