A Sigh Of Relief

Thursday was the first time I’ve had any sizable amount of free time in over a month. And what should I do with that time? Forcibly replace (while preserving the original installation) Apache 1 with Apache 2. I also got MySQL 4.1.x installed, which was quite simple due to it’s packaged format. Speaking of MySQL - the move from flatfile to sql-based SpamAssassin databases has produced quite a large database compared to most of the databases on the server. Our second largest database is my Gallery 2 database which holds about 15,000 records occupying 2.7 MB of space - I believe part of the reason the size is so large is because it uses InnoDB collation, which means the data is journaled- in essence giving it a greater degree of protection. SpamAssassin’s database on the other hand holds a little over 400,000 records occupying 19.8 MB of space. Oh and that file size drops about two megabytes when I optimize it, as it normally hovers around 22 MB. Perhaps I should start playing with replication to the dorm…… Oh and I performed a kernel upgrade on the server, which is quite dangerous since it was first my time. Should something have gone wrong, I would not be a very happy person right now.
