So Tech’s DNS for all but the server’s hostname died in the middle of the day. DNS continued to work at every ISP Joe and I had access to via friends, but not at Tech. I toyed around with the hostname records that controlled the nameservers and I ended up making some recommended changes to the expire and refresh values. I also added A records (records that point to an IP address) in for the nameservers in every record as a number of people recommended on the CPanel forums. Magically at about 1AM things just started working. I’m not sure if this is just a random occurance or if it’s part of a larger problem- we got an update via up2date just before it was marked to be skipped, but I’ve dropped in a support ticket and that should be resolved by the time I wake up. Once this is past us, I plan on moving forward with a kernel update.
